Apple completed its transition away from Intel Macs in 2023, and macOS 27 supports only Apple-silicon Macs. Intel Mac support is now a legacy platform, so auto-editor needs a clear timeline for retiring it.

## Sunsetting macOS x86-64

Starting in August 2027, auto-editor CLI releases will no longer include macOS x86-64 binaries. The [GUI app](https://app.auto-editor.com) is expected to drop Intel support earlier, tentatively in January 2027. Existing releases will remain available, but they will not receive ongoing platform-specific support.

## AVX-512

Until then, we are reducing the cost of maintaining Intel builds. Some media codecs contain AVX-512 optimized routines, but among Macs, those instructions were limited to the 2017 iMac Pro and 2019 Intel Mac Pro.

We disabled AVX-512 in several dependencies where it was straightforward to do so. On my Intel Mac laptop, this reduced the final binary from 40,255,600 to 36,387,592 bytes – saving 3,868,008 bytes, or reducing the binary size by 9.61%.
